Reykjavík – Smoky Bay
Here is the group of traveling Chinese Baseball Players with their leader Kang Kang at the Sólfar (Sun Voyager) sculpture in Reykjavík, Iceland. Sculptor Jón Gunnar Árnason’s vision was not a Viking ship, but a dream sun boat that symbolizes light and hope. Mount Esja is in the background across the bay. Photograph by Dan Bandel.
Here’s Caleb Kresl with the crew. I love the Icelandic flags shaped like the country on the left corner of their jackets! The players spent the day at the National Museum of Iceland, eating the Icelandic national food: hot dogs, and visiting the stunning Hallgrímskirkja church. Lodging was provided by Blue House B&B. Reports were that lobster soup was the dinner appetizer and at least one member of the group ate curry cod with spinach and green apple. Photograph by Dan Bandel.

Up for tomorrow:
1. Hveragerði’s geothermal park
2. Þingvellir: site of the national parliament (Alþing) founded in 930 AD at the divide between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates
A little basic pronunciation: hver = “kvair,” ð = “th” sound as in “that,” Þ = “th” as in “thing,” ll = “tl,” i = “ee”
