Cows and the Moon

Moonset somewhere in northern Iceland.

The really cool thing is there is a working dairy at the Cowshed Cafe, Skútustadhahreppur, Iceland. Notice little Lucy Wang reacting to the aroma of the dairy. Photograph by Dan Bandel.

The road to Dettifoss and the whale watching village, Húsavík, was closed, so they stayed on the Ring Road, also known as Þjóðvegur or Highway 1, and arrived several hours early to the Mývatn lake area. Caleb did homework. Dan took a well deserved nap. KK and the kids hiked around the crater formations.

Day 6: Big driving day and it rained the whole time. Dan said that the views on the eastern coast were stunning with some reminding him of scenery we’d seen in the Rockies of Western North America.

Dan drove from Reykjavík to Höfn in April 2014, so beyond Höfn started unchartered territory for him.

Day 7: It was a lighter driving day due to closed roads to Dettifoss and north to Húsavík. Instead, they arrived early at the celebrated volcanic lake area of Mývatn.
