It has been said that a culture’s poetry is its soul. In a speech at Amherst College on October 26, 1963, John F. Kennedy said, “When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man’s concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.” We could use more poetry.
